Marauders End Season with unfinished business...
Sunday, June 27, 2010 |
The Columbus Maraduers and Atlanta Defenders played to a "Left to Be Determined" status. The Defenders went up early 2-0 after a Marauders defensive stand left the ball for the offense on the 1 foot line for the offense. The Marauders then scored on a 60+ yard pass from Shawn Fuqua to Dan Fry, but failed to convert a 2 point conversion going up 6 to 2.
Storms passed north and south of Canal Winchester but lightning was "spotted" in the area by referees. After a one hour delay play resumed and Atlanta was able to score a touchdown going up 9 to 6. The Marauders got the ball back and then drove down to the redzone, and prepared to kick an easy chip shot field goal when lightning was once again "spotted". The delay lasted over one hour before the rain and lightning actually came. At 11:30pm both coaches and executive staff from both teams met and decided to declare the game "To Be Determined". The Maraduers were willing to wait until the rain stopped to finish the game, but the other team would not.
The game was offered to be played halfway between Columbus and Atlanta, the Defenders declined. Then the Marauders offered to even go down to Atlanta to finish. Atlanta again declined. The matter was brought to the NPSFL Board of Directors who after careful consultation with the Competition Committee who is the Head Coach of the Chicago Enforcers (no bias here) it was decided that Atlanta was declared the "paper" DII Champions of 2010 and concluded the game was over at halftime with the final score Atlanta 2, Columbus 0.
Make sure to thank the players and coaching staff of the 2010 Marauders for a wonderful season.
Real Champions don't quit. Real Champions don't back down from a fight. 2011 Can't come soon enough...

The Columbus Marauders announced today their selection of D1 Sports as the team's training facility for the 2010 season. D1 Sports will host not only the Marauders' indoor practices, but also their preseason team conditioning workouts.
D1 Sports, owned in part by NFL stars AJ Hawk, Bobby Carpenter, and Mike Vrabel, is a full-service training facility which specializes in creating custom workout regimens to enhance the speed, agility, mobility and endurance of athletes, using a combination of speed training, aerobics and nutrition. The training staff is led by Butch Reynolds, a former Ohio State track All-American who in 1988 set the world record in the 400m before going on to compete in three Olympic Games, winning a gold medal in the 1,600m relay and a silver medal in the 400m in 1988. Butch is now in his third year as a member of Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel's football staff. Butch serves as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Buckeyes, specializing in speed training and nutrition. |
